Salt-Glazed Stoneware Pottery from
Wisconsin captures the spirit of the early American artisans. Salt-Glazing
is a pottery making process, which was popular in the 1800's.
This pottery is handmade for Randall's
Specialties by old world-trained potters. The primitive method of
burning common rock salt in a white-hot kiln enriches each piece with
flashes of the firing and clearly shows the character of the potter's
hand. A flash of brown, a spot of orange peel glaze are all characteristics
of salt glaze. The kiln stacking clay wads make their marks on the
clay, too. These are common traits of salt glaze stoneware and increase
the pleasure of collecting these pieces. Each step of the process
contributes to making each piece of pottery a unique signature of
all the crafts people involved and an heirloom to be treasured for
generations to come.
Because all of the salt-glazed
products made for Randall's Specialties are truly handmade, you
will not find the consistency of machine made, production line products.
The size and shape will vary and the pattern will be influenced
by the individual crafts-person who creates your special piece.
Our pottery is food safe, lead free, and completely functional.
